Get Customer Attention

The first rule in getting advertising and marketing that works is to get your prospects' attention.

While this may sound like a "duh" point, it is a crucial first step that many businesses overlook.

Most of us are absolutely swamped with advertising messages. Ads in the newspaper, ads on the cereal box, ads on the radio, ads on TV, ads on the wall in the restroom -- you can't get away from marketing.

Our brains fight back by simply ignoring much of the advertising we come in contact with.

This is why you won't go wrong embracing the old saying "The first ad never sells." Expect that your prospects may not see your ad the first time it appears, or the second, or the third. In marketing, repetition gets attention and results.

Break through the clutter by talking directly to your prospect. Use "you" and "your" as much as you can. Talk about your prospect's problems, beliefs, and dreams.

Look for ways to put a creative twist on tried-and-true advertising methods. Get attention without alienating.
